Yesterday, after hours of procrastinating, I decided to sit down and write another post.
But as I opened the Google Docs, I experienced the resistance of writing the first words on the page.
This was an act of discipline, I didn’t want to be here at this moment, writing on this page.
And, as with any act of discipline, I began to question why I was here. Was it necessary to be doing this work, right here, right now?
Everyone, whether they run their own business, or work for a boss, has experienced this feeling.
It’s the feeling that your work isn’t fully aligned with your life goals
But as I continued to fill up the page, I began answering those questions.
what is the purpose of this work?
Writing posts like this allows me to share ideas and thoughts that would have been helpful if I had known them earlier. They are the lessons that have been etched into my memory.
And there are people reading this who might run a little faster in the race if they resonate with my unfiltered thoughts.
There is a purpose behind my work.
Through it, I guide the men one step behind me in this beautiful journey of seeking their greatest potential.
However, after months of disciplining myself to do the work, I had forgotten this.
No wonder I experienced resistance when I sat down to write. Posting had become about maintaining my upload schedule — not giving the gift of knowledge to those who read my articles.
And how do you think the quality of my work changed?
It suffered. I began writing shorter posts. I went less in-depth so I could publish more articles.
But after I was reminded about the ‘why’ behind my work, filling a page with thoughts and ideas suddenly became easy.
Because I’m no longer trying to write an essay to impress readers. That’s what they made me do in school and I hated that shit.
I’m now writing to help. If you can internalize the message that I try to convey through words and visualize the person behind the screen — me — maybe you can take full advantage of my life experience and shortcut my journey.
If you want to make money by starting your own business, the most fulfilling and longest-lasting results will come if you choose a purposeful route.
A journey that you have a reason for undertaking, other than just money.
Because business isn’t easy. It’s brutal. If you can have something that makes you leap out of bed in the morning because you are excited to pursue it, then success will favor you in the competition of men.
